STAR ALLIANCE™ FOUNDATION FOR PEACE -

MISSION & GOALS -

The STAR ALLIANCE™ Foundation for Peace promotes "Universal Peace Ethics" in a variety of cooperative ways including: education and inspiration, tours and travel, recognition awards and "Citizens' Media." We help people "Communicate, Cooperate and Celebrate" toward positive goals of responsible "universal citizenship," security and creative achievements; expanding fulfillment and greater happiness for all!

Since 1985 we have been a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonsectarian citizens' initiative, incorporated and based in the State of California.

In teamwork with governments, educational institutions; nonprofit service groups & NGO's, religious organizations, businesses, media and individuals everywhere:

STAR ALLIANCE does its best to help identify, define, explain, promote and exemplify "Universal Peace Ethics and Ideals" in theory and action.

We develop and provide specific programs and tools for students, citizens and leaders everywhere: to study, consider and commit or recommit to a defined set of state-supportable, "Highest Common Ideals" for a more peaceful and fulfilled life and human race. To the best of our ability, we provide guidance and encouragement for everyone to apply and practice these core ideals - on their own and in their communities - to identify as responsible "universal citizens;" to live more harmoniously; more successfully, more happily and more sustainably together.

A HERCULEAN TASK WITH BENEFITS FOR ALL

Universal Need. There is an intense need for peaceful, individual and social integration worldwide. This need is marked by stark inequities in economic, legal, political, and educational status and opportunities leading to widespread dissatisfaction, crime and violence, including terrorism and environmental degradation, affecting everyone.

Fulfilling this universal need for peaceful social integration and healthy human progress is vital to the preservation of our common home, Planet Earth; to safety and more realistic "pursuit of happiness" and fulfillment for all.

In an age of nuclear weaponry and proliferation, terrorism and potential environmental and economic collapse; allowing any social element to remain chronically isolated, disaffected and frustrated in the pursuit of legitimate basic needs courts unacceptable, continuing danger and unnecessary waste of critical resources required for everyone's higher, more lasting interests.

A "STAR ALLIANCE" Response. Responding to "The Challenge of Peace" since 1985, The STAR ALLIANCE Foundation acts as a catalyst to "do less and accomplish more." Through our programs for individual and mass citizen education and inspiration, STAR ALLIANCE stimulates human beings - "from the homeless to the Head of State" - to a higher level of ethical understanding, behavior and mutual appreciation; to more efficient and effective conflict resolution, transformation and achievements benefiting everyone.

A Virtually Unlimited Potential "Market." Through development of cooperative programs partnering with respected, established institutions, the Foundation aspires to reach out around the globe and someday: beyond. Since everyone is part of the human family - in need of and potentially contributing to a climate of "universal peace ethics" - our potential "market" is literally "everyone, everywhere!" Regardless of origin, current viewpoints and level of responsibility; everyone is invited to study, discuss, understand and commit (or reinforce existing commitments) to universal "core values." United in this commitment; individual people, governments, businesses, institutions and communities (including those in need of extra support and rehabilitation) can and will find transformative energies and resources unlocked to achieve healthier conservative and progressive goals, in better balance.

HISTORIC & FUTURE PROJECTS & "SPLENDID PLANS"

Given adequate community and financial support: The STAR ALLIANCE Foundation will develop and promote locally and worldwide a variety of educational programs, many of which have been in conceptual development and limited test application since the foundation was incorporated in 1985. Public and leadership reaction to small-scale exposures has been excellent. Some programs are still in need of much development, but many will blossom readily with simple attention and funding.

Proper intellectual property protections; website development and historical preservation, organizing and public access for our video, audio and photo archives will be among priorities for strong initial funding in the present era. These preparations will create a sound platform for credibility in private and public evaluation, long-range success and expansion.

The Mount Everest Flag for Peace. STAR ALLIANCE will continue to promote the uniquely historic Mount Everest peace flag. This valuable artifact was carried twice to the summit of the world's tallest mountain by the late, great Babu Chiri Sherpa of Nepal. Babu's gifts were symbolic of both teamwork and individual endurance and dedication to peace. (In May 1999; Babu kept the flag overnight on top for the first time - an unsurpassed feat - and took it back again on a second ascent. Later he carried another STAR ALLIANCE flag while setting a new speed climbing record!)

Citizens' "Quality-of-Life Media:" Historic & Potential. From 1987 to 1990 we produced "THE STAR ALLIANCE SHOW" TV series weekly in San Francisco (and sometimes in Marin) at their cable TV access studios. This uplifting series treated progressive authors, nonprofit leaders, artists and thinkers contributing to a better world. From 1996 to 2006 the show was again produced on a semi-regular basis in Berkeley.

With funding we will archive for streaming media historical excerpts and expand new productions with worldwide distribution over the Internet. Compelling audio segments are also available from over fifty public radio talk-show call-ins by founder Peter B. DuMont of Berkeley. Eventually we expect to produce a full-fledged musical and movie along with other major outreach projects including cooperative "Global Electronic Town Meetings."

Feeding the Homeless. For three & 1/2 years, from 1999 to 2002, founder Peter DuMont cooperated with local Chinese-American sociologist and restauranteur Mr. David Sue and his family who provided quantities of free cooked food. Throughout this period, DuMont personally worked to feed homeless people in Downtown Berkeley on a daily basis.

Track Record of Other Social Work: Caring in Crisis. Despite serious challenges of his own to deal with, DuMont has repeatedly taken time to assist other hard-pressed individuals in various forms of transitional crisis. Since 1995 alone he has allocated hundreds of hours each to at least fourteen individuals in various states of emergency: assisting two people to receive Social Security benefits; three in the dying process; one to prevent foreclosure and clear a deeply distressed home for sale; three with emergency housing and home care needs; three with complex paralegal work; one recovering from surgery; and one with suicide prevention and rehabilitation, who returned to stable and productive citizenship.

Cooperative Branding for Peace. Once a firm organizational basis has been established, the STAR ALLIANCE Foundation will endeavor to achieve higher visibility and make its name and logo available for further affiliations and network "branding." Creative audio, video and multimedia producers, stations and networks that generate and control content expressive of "universal peace ethics and ideals" will be able to associate themselves and display our name, logo and links. Extra quality control will be accomplished through endorsement of STAR ALLIANCE public declarations, licensing from the foundation for specific promotional activities, and public feedback mechanisms.

Resources Required for Peace! Fulfilling all these "splendid plans," of course, will require volunteers, core staff and cooperative affiliates around the world. To accelerate progress with purchases of equipment, software, work space, training, creativity and personnel time and energy; we need (You guessed it!) that "all-fungible, magical medium called "Money! But wait! We have a special plan to conserve much of it!

STAR ALLIANCE FOUNDATION "PEOPLE'S LASTING PEACE FUND" ™

A People's Endowment. The STAR ALLIANCE Foundation "People's Lasting Peace Fund,"™ will create a financial basis appropriate to our enormous, collective tasks; yet allow almost anyone to participate! It is based on a simple, practical rule of financial conservation: never spend the principle…only the earnings! A donation specified to The STAR ALLIANCE Lasting Peace Fund - whether small or large - will be conserved to have ongoing benefits in public education and inspiration, year after year.

Our first goal for the endowment is a modest one-million dollars. This initial cash nugget will generate a small but reliable annual income to cover basic expenses. Since our founder is currently volunteering his time, this will be a wonderful start on steady operations and growth for the future.

Our long-term peace-fund goal is also a simple, elegant formula: Just $1 on average per person on the planet. Think of it! With economies of scale, in time, each dollar contributed to the STAR ALLIANCE People's Endowment Fund will help educate at least one person around the world for "universal peace ethics," generation after generation!

Following the example of The Statue of Liberty!* Taking inspiration from Joseph Pulitzer and his historic campaign to fund installation of the Statue of Liberty with large numbers of public donations*, together we can create a broad-based public fund worthy of global dreams!

* From 1883-85, Pulitzer used his then-newly-acquired "New York World" publication to inspire donations from a large number of small donors throughout the United States. In just two years of effective, repeated publicity and public recognition to participants, Americans funded the island base of the Statue of Liberty, which was itself a gift of the people of France. WHY STAR ALLIANCE IS UNIQUE, COST-EFFECTIVE AND WORTHY OF YOUR SUPPORT

Both Catalytic and Timeless. STAR ALLIANCE programs are exciting for current and potential volunteers, private donors and institutional sponsors because our approach is efficient and cost-effective. It is at once catalytic and timeless. Like catalysts in nature, results often show up rapidly. Yet they go far beyond the immediate and especially over time: prove disproportionately large compared to the initial investment. "Ripple effects" can be unfathomable.

Universal Application. Since 1985 we have focused on universal core values for peace and understanding. We were among important pioneering organizations using this approach in the modern era, in contrast to the generally "anti" reputation of the peace protest movement prior to the end of the Cold War.

Our approach of educating for core peace values is wonderfully efficient for stimulating social change. As "universal peace ethics" and attitudes become established, enlivened and reinforced by individuals and populations, they naturally work to soothe inter-factional tensions and improve human relations across the entire social spectrum. Once individuals and groups are educated and inspired to better attitudes and self-guidance, results from this process can proceed more-or-less continually and automatically, with comparatively little further organizational involvement. Major effects in the community and the world can be created and carried on by these individuals and groups, and the people they influence in turn.

Stimulating Citizen Responsibility Everywhere. STAR ALLIANCE has created multiple documents in the voice of people everywhere. This technique enlivens readers' personal sense of importance in the world. "I, the individual, am a responsible decision-maker here!" It also lends itself to a campaign inclusive of all people - not just their governments; and that is ultimately what is needed for stable world peace.

Hope from the Past: Honoring An Early Vision. A long period of gestation, refinement and practical testing of our ideas and expressions has been invested since 1985. STAR ALLIANCE started declaring peace in late 1985, before anyone was predicting the sudden end of the Cold War. Through creativity, initiative, teamwork and persistence, the STAR ALLIANCE founders were able to get critical positive ideas in the hands of some major people - on a small scale quantitatively - but in very high places. Then, before each summit meeting between Mssrs. Reagan and Gorbachev during the latter part of the 1980's, STAR ALLIANCE would send a thoughtful letter of encouragement along with a new Citizens' Declaration to the White House and the Kremlin, The "evolving" citizens' document began to accumulate more and more signatures, increasingly impossible to ignore. (See www.STARALLIANCE.org.) At least one book will be required to do justice to the plausible, catalytic role of the foundation's work in the precipitous, never-fully-explained dissolution of the Cold War. We feel we had a lot to do with that remarkable change and other major developments for peace since. It is high time to get funded again, and each individual volunteer and donor can make a big difference! Attention and funds are never wasted in promoting timeless positive values. Though the world of course continually goes through its ups and downs; collective results via growth of positive social values tend not to dissipate with time. Rather, they grow!

A State-Supportable Values Set. The unifying "niche role" of the STAR ALLIANCE Foundation is hugely important. STAR ALLIANCE values are compatible with and supportive to the great ethical traditions and religions of the world. However, we present our "universal peace ethics and ideals" in a state-supportable, non-religious fashion. For example, we make no specific claims about a personal god; and neither predictions nor heavy-handed denials about an afterlife. We require no detailed ceremonies, nor any lifestyle changes other than those naturally indicated by each person and institution, applying the values with integrity.

Dovetailing with Science. With sufficient discussion, logical cause and proof; global public input and debate: the specific choice and expressions of core values we promote can be adapted. And STAR ALLIANCE enthusiastically invites scientific testing of results. In these ways, we can continue touching and harmonizing the "minds and hearts" of large numbers of people from varying backgrounds while dovetailing with a scientific approach.

Little to no resistance. In over twenty-two years of preparatory promotional experience, we have encountered negligible direct personal or known institutional resistance. This is a remarkable record.

Taking Action. Based on our experience, we feel STAR ALLIANCE programs are among the best "social investments" for the planet and its populations today. For everyone's sake: if you feel inspired by the ethical ideals in the STAR ALLIANCE Declaration…and if you would like to see this wonderful vision become popular, sooner; then as they say: "What are you waiting for?" Please help the Foundation grow!

The Experiment to Come. We predict the effect of STAR ALLIANCE activities will become exponentially cumulative as our materials and programs are developed and "deployed" more effectively among populations via website development, presentations, allied institutional support, conferences, media campaigns and word of mouth.

You can assist STAR ALLIANCE to build its dream and put "universal peace ideals" to wider applications today! Start by sharing the Declaration with others close to you. Then make initial and ongoing contributions of "Time, Talent and Treasure" to build the organization as feasible and comfortable for you, and watch with satisfaction as the momentum for peace builds!

AN URGENT PRIORITY: "TIMELESS IDEALS!"

Decentralizing and Empowering the Solution Base. CLEARLY: THERE'S NO TIME TO WASTE. Social needs are crying out all around. To meet the challenge it is necessary to enlist the power of "We, The People," that is: individuals everywhere. A strategy should be adopted for social change wherein the responsibility for an ethical society becomes decentralized. At present, huge resources desperately needed to save the environment and promote social justice are being wasted needlessly on avoidable crime, conflict and dysfunction.

Public and private institutions must bring increased hope, ability and facility to the stressed and dispossessed. We must empower individual people everywhere to make better choices and more ready and efficient use of nonviolent means to resolve and transform conflict - for everybody's sake! Yet for maximum progress, safety and speed of social progress, we must not "leave it all to others." It takes "Teamwork to Make the Dream Work."

The Threat of Inaction. Most people dedicated to rectifying injustices are committed to nonviolent means. But some non-state actors, often trapped in frustrating poverty - and egged on by unrelieved perceptions and experiences of injustice - have plotted to support and perform acts of terrorism. Too: states and local authorities don't always act in ideal fashion, and this can generate understandable resentment among people. An honest evaluation will find that injustice, crime and violence are closely related and form a kind of continuum and cycle, starting with domestic tensions and stretching all the way to international relations. Let's not wait for more dramatic, unpleasant and outright hurtful reminders of fear, need and imbalance from any source.

The Safer Option. The much safer option for PEACE-LOVING people, states, businesses and institutions everywhere is to act effectively for long-term, positive change via education and structural change incorporating timeless, ethical ideals.

Your Support is Needed. We at STAR ALLIANCE need your support to do a better job of supporting you, your loved ones and everyone in creating a rapidly more positive social climate. "Incremental change is not enough!" (Marianne Williamson - Campaign for a Department of Peace). No one can do it all - but you and your organization can be vital team members in this historic educational and social development. Please contribute in whatever way you can, be it "Wealth, Wisdom, Work" - or all three!

In respect and compassion for all those still suffering miserably who cannot; please give as generously as you can. Many, many people still live on less than one or two dollars a day. Catalysis for positive change among large numbers of people is the best way to help.

Only You Can Respond. Only you, the individual, can honestly answer the question: "What is my proper role in this global educational campaign?" Only you can take personal responsibility and help STAR ALLIANCE organize and act more effectively. What satisfaction awaits!

How Everyone Can "Be A Star!"

FIRST: Read, reflect and sign a STAR ALLIANCE Declaration for Peace. Of course you don't have to be "perfect" to "sign" for timeless ideals! Nor does the document have to be "perfect." (It's been gradually evolving for over twenty years now; but the overarching spirit has always been the same.) Signing indicates and strengthens your sincere pledge to keep on doing your best to be ethical and peaceful in concert with others! Remember: if you want others to support your social environment by adhering to higher ideals - you should also do your part. That means trying to set an example and supporting peace education for others. Keep your signed pledge on display at home and work and reread it often. Try your best to live by the ideals; and support STAR ALLIANCE to promote them everywhere.

SECOND: Let us know about you! Please return a copy of your signature to the Foundation by e-mail or classic mail at the address(es) below. If you wish, feel free to give us any feedback whatsoever - whether critical or positive. Your comments will help us improve future editions and encourage our efforts. With your permission, we may post your signature and/or comments on the Internet.

THIRD: Try discussing the STAR ALLIANCE Pledge and your own, more individual and specific goals and ideals with schoolmates, family, friends and colleagues. For best results, try defining and expressing your highest personal ideals consistent with the universal ethical principles we have outlined. Many times people fail to express clearly to others what they really want. You may be surprised and pleased by the positive results of doing this in a calm, respectful, un-pressured manner.

FOURTH: Make a donation. We have a lot of urgent work to do for you! Therefore, "No amount is too small!" (…or too large, for that matter.)

Signed Editions. For a tax-deductible donation of $50 and your request, we'll send you a copy of the STAR ALLIANCE Citizens' Declaration signed by integrative author Peter B. DuMont. For those who can give $100 or more and make the request: we'll send you a brilliant color edition signed by the author.

Notes about Tax Deductions. Donations to STAR ALLIANCE are tax deductible. Our Federal Tax ID # is 94-2975770. If you are requesting a signed copy, please subtract $10 from your tax deduction as a "fee-for-service." State tax deductions are currently valid only in California. (A special note to lawyers: Please consider registering STAR ALLIANCE in your state as a highly-leveraged, pro-bono contribution.)

It's true that "The whole is more than the sum of the parts" - each of us is just a tiny part of the global population. But it's also true that "Each part is vital to the whole!" Therefore: Be a "star" in our growing, "glowing" galaxy of stars! Sign the STAR ALLIANCE Citizens' Declaration and share it far and wide! Donate time and/or money!
