ABOUT US

STAR ALLIANCE BACKGROUND Star Alliance, a non-profit initiative for world peace, was founded in 1985 by Berkeley citizens Peter DuMont and Ernest Siravo, graduates of the University of California Berkeley. Their idea was to harness the power of celebrity stars and media; to promote a goodwill tour-and-video program for world peace; and to give common citizens more opportunities for understanding, living and promoting peace.

The Star Alliance Declaration of Ideals has been developed in service to everyone as an instrument of education, inspiration, commitment and reinforcement for universal ethics. The Declaration has been endorsed over the course of its evolution by numerous well-known figures from Linus Pauling to Shirley MacLaine; Leonard Bernstein to Jerry Rice and Pavarotti. Children's and adult peace curricula are being developed. The group's "STAR ALLIANCE SHOW" airs periodically on Berkeley Community Media Channel 25 (848-2288) featuring "Quality-of-Life" interviews.

STAR ALLIANCE Good Will Tours provide cash flow, exposure and education opportunities designed to enhance and make known the goals and the vision of STAR ALLIANCE. Ambitious Star Alliance plans for the future include 'Round the World Flights for Peace, and organizing media resources for a series of Global Electronic Town Meetings. Public participation is encouraged for transforming conflicts to peaceful progress — from personal levels to major issues of our time.

Volunteer and financial support is needed to develop and promote our educational curricula, Internet site (www.staralliance.net) and tours program to reach out to a world that needs goodwill and other positive ethics! Please contact for Star Alliance education programs: Peter DuMont: (510)-848-1818; and for Star Alliance Goodwill Tours and Travel: Ernest Siravo - eds@staralliance.net

Finally, to the great Immanuel Kant (18th century German philosopher) who emphasized the importance of a good will, and encouraged each of us to act as if our choices were to become universal laws! ["The Categorical Imperative."] On his tombstone is the following quotation.

"Two things fill the mind with ever new and increasing admiration and awe, the more often and more steadily we reflect upon them: the starry heavens above…and the moral law within…!"

Immanuel Kant on the Two Great Sources of Wonder in the Universe: (More complete quotation):

"Two things fill the mind with ever new and increasing admiration and awe, the more often and more steadily we reflect on them; the starry heavens above and the moral law within. . . The former view of a countless multitude of worlds…[obliterates] as it were, my importance as an animal creature, which must give back to the planet (a mere speck in the universe) the matter from which it came, the matter which is for a little time provided with vital force, we know not how. The latter on the contrary, infinitely raises my worth as that of an intelligence by my personality, in which the moral law reveals a life independent of all animality and even of the whole world of sense--at least so far as it may be inferred from the purposive destination assigned to my existence by this law, a destination which is not restricted to the conditions and limits of this life but reaches into the infinite." (Kant, Critique of Practical Reason, 1788)

"It is impossible to think of anything at all in the world, or even beyond it, that could be considered good without limitation except a good will." (Kant: Groundwork for The Metaphysics of Morals)
